Garnet Health System Orange

The project delivered a state-of-the-art regional hospital that strengthened healthcare access, increased trauma capacity, and set a new benchmark for large-scale design-build healthcare delivery in New York State. With a total project budget exceeding $270 million, the initiative involved the ground-up construction of a 620,000+ SF, 383-bed Level II trauma acute-care hospital on a 64-acre greenfield site. At the time, it was the largest design-build healthcare project in the United States and the first replacement hospital constructed in New York State in nearly 30 years. Delivered on an accelerated 38-month design-build schedule, the project encompassed comprehensive planning for occupancy, migration, and the decommissioning of ORMC’s existing campuses. The facility was designed to meet modern healthcare delivery standards, expand regional trauma capacity, enhance patient experience, and incorporate sustainable strategies aligned with emerging LEED Healthcare criteria. Successful execution required extensive coordination among the design-builder, consultants, specialty vendors, ORMC’s clinical and administrative teams, and multiple Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs). Key operational and regulatory milestones were achieved while maintaining tight schedule control and managing complex stakeholder input across clinical, support, and administrative departments.
