This project involved the design and construction of a $100+ million, 75,000 SF, ground-up, two-story Emergency Department (ED) and Operating Rooms (OR) Center for Richmond University Medical Center. The LEED-certified healthcare facility includes a 50-bay Emergency Department on the ground floor and 11 new Operating Rooms with associated support spaces located directly above. The building is powered by a new full cogeneration plant and is physically connected to the adjacent existing hospital to ensure seamless clinical operations and patient flow. The new facility significantly expands emergency and surgical capacity, modernizes infrastructure, and delivers a sustainable, future-ready environment for high-quality patient care. Designed to relieve longstanding capacity constraints, the ED introduces modern patient care areas, advanced trauma bays, and improved clinical workflows. The project required careful phasing and coordination to integrate the new structure with the active hospital while maintaining uninterrupted operations. LEED certification strategies were incorporated throughout design and construction, enhancing energy performance, indoor environmental quality, and long-term sustainability.
